In 1839, Charles Tanqueray created a spiced gin using botanicals from Malaysia and it was this recipe, found in Charles' notebook, which inspired the Tanqueray distillers to create Tanqueray Malacca. Malacca is a mischievous, flavourful gin using an exotic mix of peppercorn, rose and cloves in addition to the four Tanqueray botanicals in Tanqueray London Dry. Their range of products dates back to 1956, when oenologist Juan Teichenné Senaux left France for the Catalan region of Spain, set up a winery in the small town of L'Arboç and began handmaking liqueurs.
